Porter County Career and Technical Center

Have you heard about the amazing offerings through our Porter County Career and Technical Center?  Boone Grove High School students have the opportunity to take advantage of these course offerings as Juniors and Seniors in high school.  Many of our students that take these classes end up graduating with certifications and are extremely prepared for college or career after high school.   There are a variety of courses (some resulting in certifications) offered.  Culinary Arts (hosted at Boone Grove High School), Emergency Medical Services, Entrepreneurship/Sports & Entertainment Marketing, Health Science Education I and II w/Anatomy Physiology, Precision Machining (we had a student receive a full ride after this program last year), and Video Production and Media Studies are just a few of the many courses.

It is competitive to get into these programs.  Students need to maintain a high GPA in high school and show through their attendance and hard work that they are serious about success.  Even with that, there are not unlimited spots in these programs.  It is important to talk about these opportunities with your kids even when they are in elementary and middle school so that they know that grades matter and can anticipate what opportunity they might like to pursue.

If you are interested in learning more, I would encourage you to check out the website where they have videos to watch about their programs.  You can learn more about the many course offerings they have for next school year through their program brochure.  Better yet, attend one of the open houses–and there is one tomorrow night!  Check it out from 6:30-7:30 pm at the Porter County Career and Technical Center!

PTSC Standouts:

A BGHS student in the Porter County Career and Technical Center’s Video Productions program, who submitted Public Service Announcements to the Chicago Auto Show, was selected as one of the top three proposals in a multi-state competition.

Our student winner will receive a $1000 award for their production.  The Chicago Auto Show is flying a professional production team from New York into town to work with this student (and the student from another school) to produce their safety videos.

Congratulations to Hannah Christy on this tremendous honor!

Do you have a standout to include in this section?  Email PTSC standouts to Dr. Schmidt at to make sure your standout is included.

Things to Know/Do:

  • Now hiring substitute teachers! Please contact Linda Dusek at the administration building if you are interested in substitute teaching and she will help you start the application process and discuss qualifications.
  • Do your friends and neighbors know how to find our weekly updates? Even if your neighbors don’t have kids in school tell them about our weekly updates so they can hear the great news of what happens at PTSC!
  • Every Wednesday is a 30-minute delayed start. If we have a 2-hour delay, students will arrive at school 2 hours after the regular start time for the building.
  • We are also looking for bus drivers to drive our extra-curricular runs. If you are interested, please apply online. It’s a great way to earn some money and attend extra-curricular events!
